Questions researchers ask
- What happens to my work if I cancel?
- Nothing is deleted. Your notebooks, literature and notes stay in your account. You keep full access until the end of your paid period, then the account returns to the Free plan with read access to everything you have written.
- What if I have more than 2 projects when I downgrade?
- All projects remain readable. You choose which two stay active for editing, and you can swap which ones are active at any time.
- Can I switch between monthly and annual?
- Yes. Change your plan at any time from Plan & Billing; upgrades apply immediately and are pro-rated.
- Is this suitable for a dissertation or thesis?
- Yes. The notebook follows the full research lifecycle — question, literature, methodology, ethics, data, analysis, findings and writing.
- Can my supervisor or co-authors work in the same project?
- Invited, asynchronous project collaboration is available: hosting your own team starts at Researcher (up to 5 collaborators per project) or Researcher Pro (up to 15), and invited supervisors and teammates can join on a Free account within the access they were given. There is no simultaneous co-authoring. Only the project owner needs a paid plan; if the owner moves to Free, collaborators keep reading and changes pause until the owner upgrades. On Researcher and Researcher Pro, create an expiring, de-identified, read-only review snapshot of the pages and sources you choose, optionally allow controlled comments on it, and generate a supervisor review packet — a reviewer never gets an account, ownership or editing access. Simultaneous co-authoring, shared laboratory workspaces and institutional workspace administration are not available — planned for future development based on demonstrated interest.
- What is the difference between Search my notebook and Universal Search?
- Search my notebook looks only inside your own account — projects, pages, sources, records, tasks and files — and is available on every plan. Universal Search, on Researcher Pro, searches open scholarly catalogues outside your account and shows what exists and where it may lawfully be read.
- What does the Relevance Rate tell me?
- It estimates how well a found record fits the research purpose you described, and it always shows its working. It is not a measure of truth, credibility, evidence quality, prestige or endorsement, and it does not tell you whether you can read the work. On Researcher Pro you can adjust the weighting behind it.
- Does Research Notebook support two-factor authentication?
- Yes, as an optional, per-account setting on every plan — it is not institutionally enforced. It supports an authenticator app (TOTP) only; there is no SMS option and no recovery codes are issued. If you lose access to your authenticator, contact Perspectives Plus support for owner-assisted recovery. Keep your authenticator app backed up.
